Talking about the 'guiding ideas' of your organization or team, having conversations and consensus about visions and core values etc. is a fine thing. But you should also focus on how such ideas or statements are used. An effective tool for this is the BS¹⁾ meter.

"At the end of the day, you just ask yourself, How did our vision and values influence decisions I made today? If they did not, then they are pretty much BS." ²⁾
